Update! ImprovActually has been extended through April due to popular demand!

Chicago-style improv will sweep Sydney this February and March. Head of Training for iO Theatre Chicago, Bill Arnett, is taking Sydney’s best improvisers on the same journey that created the talent in shows like Scrubs, 30 Rock, Drew Carey and Saturday Night Live.

Every Friday in March the results of importing Bill’s skills will be on stage in a first-time show, ImprovActually, running at the Roxbury Hotel, Glebe.

Chicago is the home of the two most famous and original Improv troupes in the world, iO and Second City. Their graduates include stars like Tina Fey, Mike Myers, Dana Carey and Neil Flynn. In Bill Arnett Sydney improvisers are learning from the man in charge of the future stars of American comedy.

ImprovActually takes a single word from the audience and builds a whole play. It creates surprise. Drama. Pathos. And of course, laughter. It’s new to Sydney, and it’s new to Australia.

It’s fitting that ImprovActually is on stage in Sydney, Australia’s home of improv. For more than 25 years the big comedy names have come through the Sydney improv stages: people like Andrew Denton, Julia Zemiro, Andrew O’Keefe and Adam Spencer.

The cast is a mix of old hands and new faces; but all are experienced performers at venues such as the Belvoir Street Theatre, The Enmore Theatre, and the Factory Theatre.
