Theatresports® returns to Belvoir
with a bang…

Impranos

The toughest wittiest wiseguys and wisegals in town are headed for Belvoir St Theatre. The head of The Family has called a meeting to choose a successor and every punk, hoodlum, mafiosi, thug, ruffian, moll, mole and stool-pigeon is coming to fight it out for the position of top dog. Comic actors in the characters of criminals, cronies and friends of Don Corleone will have their loyalty and skills tested in the form of Theatresports® challenges and improvised sketch comedy set-ups based on audience suggestions. The punchlines will fly when Sydney’s finest impro performers attempt to claim their turf.

Theatresports®, Australia’s longest-running theatre comedy show returns to its ‘home patch’, the newly renovated Belvoir Street Theatre which they have filled with laughter on Sunday nights since 1985. The very best players around will make up fantastic stories, songs and sketches on the spot. Similar in nature to TV’s ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ and ‘Thank God You’re Here’, comedy’s quickest minds return for a 6 week season of gag warfare against some brilliant young guns ready to knock them off their pedestal. Every Sunday at 8.30pm from June 17 through July 22.

See Jordan Raskopoulos (from Ronnie John’s Half Hour) as the evil Super Mario. Watch Rebecca DeUnamuno (from The Chaser, Comedy Inc and Big Bite) as Lola the gangster’s moll. See Lee ‘Fat Tony’ Naimo (Scrabble Unscripted) as Fat Tony. From triad members to evil masterminds, godfathers to gang-leaders, school bullies to young liberals… they’re all up for a scrap and willing to use every dirty trick not in the book. Young challengers (including stars of the Theatresports® High School Competition and Scared Scriptless) will face a series of comedy initiation tests before they can join the impro ‘Family’. To prove their honour (and avoid being rubbed out), they’ll have to put their pride and their bodies on the line… and their best lines too. Otherwise it’s arrivederci… pronto!

It won’t always be pretty, but it will be funny!

With celebrity guest MC Godfathers/Godmothers each week.
